The Lubbock City Museums insist that “Time travel DOES exist”, and at Silent Wings Museum that certainly feels true. The museum, housed in the original Lubbock Airport (as opposed to the new, active one), tells the story of the World War II Glider Program–about which I was TOTALLY IGNORANT until last week, but I had a blast learning about it!

Silent Wings Museum

Big Band music from the 40s ushers you into a roomy theater where you’ll see a documentary that does a great job of describing the importance of the glider mission, its history, and its risks.

Then you can take all the time you like exploring the hanger full of restored combat gliders and exhibits of artifacts, uniforms, and recreated scenes that “take you back”.

Time travel? Maybe they’re right. 😉
