Why do we remember so little of what we read and hear in lectures?

I think it’s because often we have no point of reference–no place to file the information. We may listen politely, but if the information doesn’t relate to us in some way it is of little interest, really, and hard to retrieve later.

BUT if we experience something ourselves, even if the experience is only a small part of what we hope to learn, we remember because it is something that happened to US. A whole “bucket” of information can be collected within each experience.

Whenever possible, make learning a PERSONAL EXPERIENCE!
