Field Trip!

The 31st annual Red Steagall Cowboy Gathering and Western Swing Festival will be held October 28-30 at the Fort Worth Stockyards.

This event makes a great Texas history field trip, but you’ll want to plan early! The Wagon Train leaves Jacksboro, Texas on Saturday, October 16. Click the link and check the website to see how your family can participate as a riders, or watch the wagons as they make their way to Perrin, Mineral Wells, Weatherford, and Azle before arriving at the Stockyards on Thursday, October 21st. Even if you don’t plan to go to the Gathering over the weekend, you might still catch the Wagon Train along the route or as they roll in!

Over the weekend there’ll be a ranch rodeo and team roping events, cowboy music and poetry, western dancing, auctioneering, and a chuckwagon cooking competition. Mmmm! Can’t you just smell the mouthwatering chili and cornbread?

This is a great opportunity to add a first-hand taste of Texas to your Texas History studies. Here’s a sample of what your family might experience:

If you’re anywhere near Fort Worth, you could hardly find a better field trip to give you a true taste of Texas culture! 🙂

In 2018, my second novel, Stronger Than Mountains, was a Silver Medal winner for the Will Rogers Medallion Award for Western Fiction. Next year I will be submitting my newest book, A Hill Country Christmas-Hope for Hardscrabble Times for the 2023 award competition.

Wish us well!

I’ll let you know if we win! 🙂
