There’s a reason we call our state history program “Discover Texas”!

Whether you’re just starting your adventure or might just need a reminder, the key word is “DISCOVER”!

We firmly believe that we should not just “teach a curriculum.” We teach CHILDREN, and children learn best when they’re actively involved.

They love stories.

They love to take trips.

They love to play and dress up in costumes and try out new things.

And when they do these things–when children take an active part in their own learning with their curiosity fully engaged–they remember what they’ve learned because it has become a part of their life experience and not just something that happened to somebody they didn’t know who lived a long time ago.

So, if you haven’t caught the inspiration from this week’s blogs, or if you just need encouragement, PLEASE start your year off with some sort of activity that will get your children excited about learning. Believe me, it will make your job as a teacher so much easier! 🙂

I’d love it if you’d use the comment section to tell us what you plan to do this weekend or in the next couple of weeks. You might just encourage a fellow educator with ideas they hadn’t thought of yet!
